One of the most solemn and evocative moments of the 10th edition of the Picentia Short Film Festival took place on the main stage of Piazza Aldo Moro, with international stage and screen heavyweight Fortunato Cerlino being presented with the prestigious Picentia Award "City of Battipaglia". The honor was formalized through the presentation of the revered Silver Ear of Wheat (Spiga d'argento), an institutional tribute embodying the agricultural heritage, spirit, and collective embrace of a thriving community of over 50,000 residents.

A packed piazza welcomed Cerlino with a prolonged standing ovation, paying homage not only to a celebrated performer acclaimed worldwide for nuanced and formidable character portrayals, but also to an artist dedicated to rigorous storytelling and social reflection.

The Silver Ear of Wheat: Symbolism and Civic Roots

The Silver Ear of Wheat stands as Battipaglia’s most profound cultural emblem—a representation of fertility, hard work, dedication to the land, and cultural growth. Presenting the honor, civic leaders and festival directors underscored the parallel between the actor's craft and agricultural labor: both demand patient cultivation, authenticity, and respect for collective history.

Accepting the award before the audience, Cerlino conveyed genuine appreciation for the warm community welcome:

“To receive an emblem carrying the shared heartbeat, dignity, and heritage of over fifty thousand people is a profound privilege and a great responsibility. The soil and the stage share a fundamental truth: you cannot deceive the earth, and you cannot deceive an audience watching you. This honor serves as a reminder that storytelling matters most when anchored in our roots and our shared humanity,” Cerlino reflected from the stage.

International Acclaim and Dramatic Mastery

The ceremony offered an insightful look across Cerlino’s storied career, spanning classical stage foundations to worldwide film and television triumphs. With remarkable insight and generosity, he reflected on the actor's craft, navigating stereotypes, and the artistic duty of portraying complex, multidimensional figures on screen.

Honoring Fortunato Cerlino with the Picentia Award marks one of the defining highlights of this milestone edition, proving how public spaces and independent cinema can unite to celebrate high artistic merit and deep civic pride.
